OREANDA-NEWS. June 6, 2008. Representatives of Rosenergoatom Concern, Hydroprress EDB, Rostekhnadzor, the European Commission, AREVA NP (France), Forschungszentrum Dresden Rossendorf e. V (Germany), Universita di Pisa (UNIPI, Italy) attended the conference.

The key goal of the project was to enhance the safety of the cores of the Russian WWER type reactors by providing the Russians with a complex of technical recommendations – based on the best international experience — on how to effectively respond to possible incidents in reactor core.

"This project will help Rosenergoatom Concern to carry out more effective safety analysis before launching WWER reactors. Now the quality of such analyses will fully meet the best international standards. This will help us to more easily obtain Rostekhnadzor’s licenses," the head of the International Activiites Department of Rosenergoatom Concern Anatoly Kirichenko said.

"The other major result is fruitful cooperation and exchange of know-how between Russian and western engineers," Kirichenko said.
