OREANDA-NEWS. June 16, 2008. Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko believes that in 2009 it is necessary to redouble the financing of innovative projects in the nuclear power industry due to additional investments by nuclear companies.

In 2008 Rosatom 5% of the funds allocated for research and development will be spent on innovations.

While speaking at the 3rd Rosatom Innovative Forum in Moscow on Monday, Kiriyenko said: “Next year we should increase this figure to 10% with half of the financing to be undertaken by nuclear companies.”

As compared with 2007 this time 50% of the projects presented at the forum are new projects. “Our innovative potential is not exhausted and is being renewed. Besides, we have lots of projects by non-nuclear companies,” Kiriyenko said.

He believes that by the end of this year Rosatom should ensure more serious cooperation with related industries in the field of innovations.

In 2008 Rosatom has allocated 2bln RUR for research and development projects, including over 120mln RUR for innovative projects. The key priorities in the field of innovations are superconductors, nuclear medicine and water treatment systems.
