OREANDA-NEWS. June 18, 2008. JSC ORMETO-YuMZ, a part of URALMASH Machine Building Corporation (URALMASH) manufactured and shipped slag casting machine MKPSh-45 for JSC Kaztsink (Kazakhstan, Ust-Kamenogorsk). Machine installation will commence in August 2008. Contract for machine supply was made in May 2007.

The machine will be operated at new lead and copper plants being built by Kaztsink in Ust-Kamenogorsk jointly with ENGINEERING DOBERSEK GmbH, Germany.

Major advantage of the machine is high production capacity. It can produce 45 tons of slag briquettes per hour (similar machine at Mednogorsk copper & sulfur plant produces 12.5 tons per hour). This high capacity is a result of a bigger size of the machine - its length is over 77 meters. Machines having such capacity have never been designed or produced before in the world.

According to Andrey Kosukhin, lead engineer, commissioning of this machine will enable the customer to extract maximum of useful components out of processed slag and obtain high quality gas-permeable slag ingots. "YuMZ designers proposed to cool slag blocks with water and air, thus ensuring their gradual cooling without generation of defects".

Processed lead containing slag will be used to fill mine voids after production of ore, which is an expensive but environment-friendly way to dispose of slag. Besides, use of this eco-safe technique will solve the problem of air contamination with sulfur dioxide and reduce emissions of heavy metals by 13 K tons per year.
