OREANDA-NEWS. July 2, 2008. A meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM was held in Batumi, Georgia.

Participants in the meeting included Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Georgian leader Mikheil Saakashvili, Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko and Moldavian Internal Affairs Minister Valentin Mejinschi.

The event was opened by GUAM`s Secretary General Valeri Chechelashvili, who then gave the floor to the Azerbaijani leader, current rotating chairman of GUAM.

President Ilham Aliyev pointed to GUAM`s developing cooperation with other international organizations.

He also spoke of Azerbaijan’s economic progress.

President Aliyev said Azerbaijan has become a global energy and transport corridor, adding the country is making huge contribution to the regional cooperation.
