OREANDA-NEWS. July 3, 2008. During a meeting with Governor of Chelyabinsk region Pyotr Sumin, Director General of Mayak Sergey Baranov said that it was just one example of Mayak’s innovative activities. Mayak is planning a whole series of innoavtive projects by 2023 and has specific plan of action till 2015.

Among the key tasks for the next 5–7 years is development of technologies for processing all types of national and foreign nuclear fuel for its reuse in production cycle. For the moment Mayak can regenerate only several types of fuel. The company is starting a program to produce sources of radiation for medicine based on cobalt and other elements. Mayak is also developing a system of constant ecological control over the situation in its nearby area.  Baranov said that this project might be enlarged and might cover the whole region.

In his turn, Sumin expressed satisfaction with the improvement of the economic state of Mayak, which allowed the company to raise the wages of its employees by 15% on the occasion of its 65th birthday.
