OREANDA-NEWS. July 8, 2008. This project is financed by Russia, the United States and Canada in the framework of two international programs: Global Partnership, adopted at G8 Summit in 2002, and the Russian-US Cooperative Threat Reduction Program.

“The submarine will be fully dismantled by Mar 2009,” says a representative of Zvezdochka. It will be the third Typhoon class submarine to be dismantled in Severodvinsk. Sevmash has already dismantled submarine N712 and is dismantling submarine N713 jointly with Zvezdochka.

The Akula (Typhoon) nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines have been designed by Rubin Design Bureau under strategic Project 941. 

Six submarines were built at Sevmash in 1977–1989. The length of a Typhoon class submarine is 175 meters, the width – 22.8 meters, the displacement is 49,000 tons, the crew – 170 people, the equipment – 20 ballistic missiles.

ITAR TASS reports that the Northern Fleet has three Typhoons – Arkhangelsk, Severstal and Dmitry Donskoy. Dmitry Donskoy has been modernized at Severmash and equipped with modern Bulava missile system.
