OREANDA-NEWS. July 14, 2008. An accident took place at Shashkova Mine, a part of Pavlogradugol OJSC, which resulted in the death of a winning machine operator.

When mounting tie-bars between arch supports, a wedge of rock fell from a height of 2.5m from the top of the coupling and fatally injured the miner. According to the preliminary conclusions of the accident investigation commission, it was caused by violations in the work technology. The commission will provide the final causes of the accident upon completion of the investigation.

All the mines of Pavlogradugol Company have been continuously working on the prevention of similar on-the-job accidents. All underground employees of Pavlogradugol’s mine were informed of the circumstances of the accident within 24 hours. An unscheduled briefing on safe technologies and methods was conducted for miners on how to dismantle and support face ends.

The management and employees of the coal mining company convey their condolences to the family of the victim. In compliance with the collective agreement of Pavlogradugol OJSC, material help will be provided to the family of the lost miner.
