OREANDA-NEWS. On July 23, 2008 as it was informed at the National Bureau of Statistics, the growth in industrial output of Moldova is mainly due to increased production of food and beverages (by 11.8%), as well as power sector (8%) which share makes 36, 4% and 13.1%, respectively.

Significant growth was registered in enterprises engaged in the production of wine – by 1.6 times, distilled alcoholic beverages – 1.4 times.

Production of bread and confectionery products increased by 14.3%, meat and meat products - by 12.7%, medical, exact, optical and communication equipment - 24.7%, dairy products - 6.2%, cocoa, chocolate, sugar confectionery products - 16.2%, furniture - 21%, footwear-7.4%.

Industrial production also increased in tanning of leather (1.9 times), production of machine tools (26.5%), cutting, processing and finishing stone (25.7%), production of cement, lime, gypsum (24.3%).

Production of steel industry increased by 11.4%, in mining industry – by 5.9%, respectively. Output of medicines and pharmaceutical products grew by 7.6%, varnishes and paints - 4.4%, rugs and carpets - 3.6%, household appliances - 3.5%.

At the same time, reduced production of tobacco and tobacco products – by 25.3%, mineral water and soft drinks -19.7%, fats and oils - 14.7%, glass and glass products -14.5%, paper and cardboard - 13.7%, clothing - 12.2%, rubber and plastics -9.8%.
