OREANDA-NEWS. July 25, 2008. Branch "North Western bureau" of OJSC "Transsiberian reinsurance corporation" paid OJSC "Insurance Company of Gas Industry" (SOGaz) USD 605 ths of reinsurance compensation on the fact of the loss of the ship Maro (type - universal; displacement - 3046 BRT, year and place built - 1981, Germany; flag and port of registry - Antigua and Barbuda, St. John's). Payment is done within the limits of contract of obligatory reinsurance of marine risks signed through the brokerage company Willis.

Insurance case occurred between 7 and March 11, 2008. During the transition without cargo (with ballast) from the port of Bayona (France) to the port Pasahes (Spain) on 7 March 2008 ship Maro grounded in the area of reef coastline to the west of Cape Iger, near the Franco-Spanish border.

Despite the work of rescuers during the 7-10 March to withdraw the ship from aground it had not been possible because of the ongoing storm on March 11, the ship asunder into three parts.

As a result of this incident total constructive loss of the ship has been recognized. The insurance sum under the contract of hull insurance made USD 3.8 mln. The share of responsibility of "Transsiberian Re" for reinsurance contract set at 40% of the first layer. After receiving of a full package of documents under the loss “Transsiberian Re” has made the decision to pay the reinsurance compensation of their share of USD 605 ths.
