OREANDA-NEWS. July 28, 2008. On July 21–25 2008 Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant for the first time ever hosted a conference of the chief engineers of the Russian nuclear power plants. The meeting was chaired by the deputy director general-the technical director of Rosenergoatom Concern Nikolay Sorokin. Representatives of Rosenergoatom Concern and organization ensuring engineering support of the REA nuclear power plants attended the conference.

The conferees discussed the results of the work of the NPPs in Jan-June 2008 as well as the experience of operating NPPs under unfavorable climatic conditions.

Sorokin told the conferees about the performance of the REA NPPs in Jan-June 2008: “We produced more than we planned for the period. All the plants operated safely and efficiently. As regards Bilibino NPP, we were eager to see this unique plant. It is the smallest NPP in Russia – 12MW (the second smallest NPP is Kola – 440MW). But the requirements we set for it as the same as for its bigger counterparts. Bilibino NPP works no less efficiently than the other plants and last year it was recognized as the best in the field of safety culture. ”

Among the major tasks for this year are safe and efficiency performance, compliance with the electricity production plan, modernization of reactors and enhancement of output of NPPs.

The conferences of chief engineers are conducted each quarter of year.
