OREANDA-NEWS. July 30, 2008. Russia should implement own program for development of nuclear power production, Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin said during a conference on nuclear energy development in Elektrostal today.

In the next 12 years Russia is planning to build 26 nuclear reactors as many as throughout the Soviet epoch. In 2016 the budgetary financing will be stopped and the nuclear power industry will have to start financing its projects itself. “I very much hope it will,” Putin said.

Today, the share of NPPs in the total energy production in Russia is just 16% against 38% in developed countries. NPPs are best when operated at a full capacity. So, the unified energy system of Russia must be ready to provide relevant infrastructure. And so, it is necessary to actively develop network infrastructure.
