OREANDA-NEWS. On 06 August 2008 was announced, that President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Special Envoy of the King of Jordan for Central Asia Abdullah Saleh Abdelrahim Borekat, who had arrived in Ashgabat.

The guest conveyed the heartfelt greetings and message of King of Jordan Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein expressing the gratitude for the invitation to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan to the Turkmen leader. The Special Envoy noted that His Majesty Abdullah II showed profound respect to the leader of Turkmenistan, who he considered his friend and brother and Turkmenistan a strategic partner of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Special Envoy of the Jordan’s King emphasized that this visit would foster development of the intergovernmental relations and open a new page in the history of Turkmen-Jordanian co-operation. On behalf of His Majesty Abdullah II the guest informed that Jordan intended to open an embassy in Turkmenistan in the nearest future.

Thanking for the heartfelt greetings Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that he was very glad to know personally the King of Jordan whom he had met during the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of Astana last month and this meeting had left the best impressions. The Turkmen President noted that close partnership with the Arab countries remained a priority of foreign policy strategy of Turkmenistan pursuing the policy of peaceableness, good neighbourliness and wide international co-operation. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that Turkmenistan viewed the Turkmen-Jordanian relations as exceptionally promising and stood ready to develop the fruitful contacts in a broad range of fields.

Mr. Abdullah Saleh Abdelrahim Borekat emphasized that the unprecedented reforms going on in modern Turkmenistan were of particular interest to Jordan that completely supported the course of the progressive reforms initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The sides exchanged views on the key aspects and opportunities of mutually advantageous partnership in the contest of the priorities of national development of Turkmenistan and the Kingdom of Jordan. The sides noted that the vast opportunities for establishing the effective business contacts and mutually advantageous exchange of experience were provided in the trade and economic sphere, fuel and energy sector, agriculture, transport and communication, textile and chemical industries, construction and the sphere of high technologies. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited the Jordanian partners to collaborate in the large-scale programmes and projects initiated by Turkmenistan including creation of a world-class resort on the Caspian Sea coast – Avaza national tourism zone.

The sides focused on humanitarian co-operation, particularly in the sphere of education, science and health care. The guest informed of Jordan’s willingness to admit Turkmen students to the institutions of higher education. The President and the Special Envoy of Jordan’s King called for enhancing and expanding the cultural contacts that was conditioned by the common historical and spiritual traditions of the two fraternal nations.

The Turkmen President suggested establishing the bilateral Turkmen-Jordanian commission for co-operation, which would search for the optimal approaches to establishing and intensifying fruitful partnership.

The Turkmen leader expressed the heartfelt greetings and best wishes to King of Jordan Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. Encouraging the friendly country’s intention to open an embassy in Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that it would foster the constructive dialogue.

Upon concluding the meeting the Turkmen leader and his guest expressed belief that intergovernmental co-operation based on the goodwill and both countries’ profound economic and resource potential as well as intention to use this potential for the common benefit would be successfully developed.
