OREANDA-NEWS. August 11, 2008. According to the National Bank of Moldova, as of late June 2008, ROA and ROE amounted to 4.2% and 24.6%, respectively, increasing since the beginning of the year by 0.3 and 0.6 percentage points.

TIER-I of the banks grew by 12.7% - up to 5 billion 890 million leis (USD 607.2 million).

The share of foreign investments in the banks’ capital amounted to 72.5%, increasing by 0,6 points since the beginning of the year. In I half of 2008, total assets of the banking system of Moldova increased by 13% - up to 36 billion 166.8 million leis (\\\\$ 3 billion 728.5 million).

In particular, the loan portfolio increased by 13.6% - up to 22 billion 577 million leis (USD 2 billion 327.5 million) and governmental securities - by 36.6% - up to 3 billion 095.2 million leis (USD 319.1 million).

The percentage of net loans in the total assets of the banks amounted to 62.4%, increasing by 0,3 pints since the beginning of the year. The share of adverse credits (substandard, doubtful and hopeless) in the total loans of the banks amounted to 3.8% and in the total banks' assets to 2,4%, respectively.

As of late I half of 2008, the largest share of the total loan portfolio amounted to loans for industry and commerce - 48.3%. Then follows: mortgage loans for construction and development - 12.9%, loans for agriculture and food industry - 13.8% and consumer loans - 13.2%.

Balance of loans provided to small and medium enterprises amounted to 8 billion 281.4 million leis (USD 853.7 million), increasing by 8,9% since the beginning of the year. As of late I half 2008, liabilities of the banks amounted to 29 billion 951.2 million leis (USD 3 billion 087 million), or 13.2% more than at the beginning of the year.

Deposits of individuals grew by 18.2% - up to 16 billion 678.9 million leis (USD 1 billion 719.5 million). It should be noted that in 2007 the net profit of the banking system of Moldova amounted to 1 billion 094.8 million leis (USD 112.8 million at the current NBM rate), increasing by 59,9% as compared with the previous year.

Currently, the banking system of Moldova includes 16 banks, three of which are foreign banks’ branches.
