OREANDA-NEWS. August 12, 2008. This is the technologically complete two-section building to solve the problem of environmentally safe provisional storage of wastes of energy production. In Russia such premises are commissioned in number not exceeding ten. The slime pit of КCHP-3 was the first in the last decade building of such a scope, commissioned in Republic of Tatarstan.

Total operating volume of the slime pit is 64,000 m2. The slopes and crossing tracks are made of in-situ reinforced concrete plate of height 150 mm, underlying layer – pf concrete of height till 100 mm. The bottom has the strong pickled base, covered with bitumen of 200 mm high, low grain а/concrete of 5-8 cm layer and covered with hot bitumen of 2-4 mm layer with protecting sand layer of 10 mm.

Slime is filled I one section with return of clarified water through the dam well to the technological cycle of the plant. In other section the supplied slime will be dried and compressed. The compressed slime in 2-3 years after slime pit cleaning will be used for re- cultivating of the ravines for erosion fighting, and return of land to cultivating.

Existing slime pit of Kazan CHP-3, designed by construction of 1-st and 2-nd turn of plant had operated since 1971 and its life is 15 years. In 1997 the filling of the slime pit was recognized as critical and its further operating with no additional costs of annual cleaning – impossible. Due to management of JSC "Tatenergo " and JSC "Generation Company" the issues of environment protection and improving the process were in the focus and decision was made to build in 2007 the new two-section slime pit.

In April 2007 General Contractor of PSF "Gidromontazh, Ltd" did preparations and began construction of I turn of slime pit. The planned construction and mounting works were completed in time, in October 2007 the I turn of two-section slime pit was commissioned, in May 2008 started preparations for II turn construction. It was completed in short tome period - already on July 31, 2008 at Kazan CHP-3 commissioned the technologically finished end environmentally safe premise.
