OREANDA-NEWS. On 28 August 2008 was announced, that the city authorities of Moscow are to have the parking garages with the total capacity of more than 4,700 vehicles constructed by 2010.

“Several garage complexes with the total capacity of 4,756 vehicles for an all-inclusive development of the townships as well as for providing the residential buildings under construction at the expense of the city budget with parking will be erected in Moscow during 2008-2010,” a source from City Hall said.

The source specified that new parking lots would appear in the central, northeastern, northwestern, southeastern and Zelenogradsky administrative districts of Moscow.

As predicted by the city authorities, a number of private vehicles in Moscow will go up to 2.88 million by 2010. It is intended to provide Muscovites with parking lots for 60 per cent by that time. Around 50 per cent of the car owners are currently provided with parking lots in Moscow. According to the data provided by the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate under Moscow’s Main Department of Internal Affairs, 2.641 million of private vehicles were registered in the city by the end of 2007.

Vladimir Resin, first deputy Moscow City Mayor, informed earlier that 125,000 new parking lots had been commissioned in 2008. According to the development master plan for Moscow, this index is to reach 70 per cent by 2020. So, the car parks for 1.7 million vehicles are to be constructed.
