OREANDA-NEWS. September 25, 2008. Atomstroyexport CSJC, in consortium with Inter RAO UES and Ciner (Turkey), has made the only bid for the right to build NPP in Turkey, reports the representative of Atomstroyexport Irina Yesipova.

She says that the consortium offers to build four 1.2GW reactors on the basis of NPP-2006 project.

The tender for the construction of Turkey’s first nuclear power plant was announced in Mar 2008 by the national power company, Tetas. The application deadline was Sept 24 2008.

The plant will be situated near Mediterranean port of Mersin.

Today, 50% of Turkey’s electricity is produced by gas-fuelled plants, 25% by coal and water power plants. The Turkish authorities are seeking to diversify their energy sources and to reduce their dependence on gas supplies. Turkey is planning to build three NPPs by 2013.

Next year Turkey is planning to announce a tender for the construction of a nuclear power plant near Sinop.

The key pretenders are Atomstroyexport, General Electric and Haci Omer Sabanci Holding (Turkey).
