OREANDA-NEWS. October 2, 2008. Enterprises producing biofuel will be set up in all the regions of Belarus, Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky told reporters.

The head of the Belarusian government visited an enterprise processing oil plants in the village of Sharayevshchina of the Bobruisk region and a future plant producing biofuel from the rapeseed oil in the village of Kalinino.

“In the nearest future, enterprises like these will be established in every oblast. The enterprises in the Bobruisk region employed the most advanced imported technologies which will be adjusted to the Belarusian conditions,” the Premier said. Such enterprises will help reduce the import of crude oil approximately by 300 000 tonnes. Our country consumes about 2 million tonnes of diesel fuel a year, Sergei Sidorsky added.

It will be important for the agriculture, too, as biofuel will be cheaper than the diesel one, the Belarusian Premier underlined.

Sergei Sidorsky said that the government is currently addressing the pricing issues concerning the enterprises producing biofuel. Although the prices had been defined, some changes took place on the foreign market. “Our neighbours, Russia and Ukraine, had a good yield of sunflower and rape, the prices therefore are sinking. This is why it is necessary to develop a coherent pricing policy so that our enterprises work efficiently producing and exporting rapeseed oil, cake and biofuel,” Sergei Sidorsky noted.
