OREANDA-NEWS. October 7, 2008. The consulting division of Deloitte Company has finished the project on the development of an IT strategy for the leader of the fuel and energy business in Ukraine – Donbass Fuel-Energy Company (DTEK), Deloitte press-service informed a correspondent of UNIAN.

The strategy determines the main aspects in the development of the company’s IT functions for the period from 2008 until 2013 and includes three areas: business applications, IT-infrastructure and telephony, a system of information technology management.

The project covers the management company DTEK, as well as the key assets of the holding company representing such business areas as coal production and enrichment, power generation and electricity distribution.

In the first stage, an assessment of the current status of IT functions was made. To this end, generally recognized industrial methodologies and practices were applied as well as Deloitte’s own consulting tools.

Deloitte experts also conducted an analysis of current world trends in the development of information technologies in the energy sector and used its findings to design an operational target model of the IT function, which corresponds to the long-term requirements and strategic goals of DTEK.

Consolidated business requirements encompassing all DTEK businesses were used for the assessment of the expediency, efficiency of introduction and the level of compliance of the information technologies with the business requirements.

The project resulted in a long-term plan for DTEK’s IT development including the target status of the IT function, a project portfolio for the implementation of the IT strategy and a high-level model of the IT organizational chart. The team of consultants also worked out a mechanism for a regular assessment and update of the IT strategy.

‘Taking into account the rapidly increasing competition in the Ukrainian and international power and raw materials markets, efficient use of information technologies is an important factor in the success for any large player. Having applied the experience and knowledge accumulated in Deloitte, the management of DTEK received access to best world practices, says the press-release.

The financial side of the project has not been disclosed.
