OREANDA-NEWS. October 8, 2008. During a meeting in Cadarache (France) in Nov 2008 the Council of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) will discussed problems related to the financing and deadlines of the project, President of Kurchatov Institute Yevgeny Velikhov told journalists on Oct 8 2008.

“We will discuss the most urgent problems, including financial and deadlines. Our task is to preserve the initial deadline,” Velikhov said.

The meeting will take place Nov 19–22 2008.

Velikhov pointed out that the project was complying with the schedule initially agreed on by its parties. “Russia is implementing its obligations to deliver necessary equipment. We have produced 10 km of unique superconducting cable,” he said. At the same time, Velikhov pointed out that some of the parties were lagging behind the schedule.

Earlier, the head of Russian ITER Domestic Agency Anatoly Krasilnikov said that under ITER project Russia was to produce Nb3Sn superconducting cable for toroidal field coils and NbTi superconducting cable for poloidal field coils.
