OREANDA-NEWS. October 31, 2008. The Gomel oblast and Moldova intend to develop cooperation in the area of agriculture. The implementation of the major projects has been discussed at the meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Moldova to Belarus Ivan Filimon and the top officials of the south-eastern region of Belarus in Gomel on October 30.

The sides agreed to set up a joint venture (a branch) of Gomselmash in Moldova. “Using the rich experience of our Belarusian counterparts we would like to establish enterprises producing grain harvesters and other agricultural machines in Moldova,” the Ambassador said.

The officials of the Gomel oblast upheld the proposal of the Moldovan side to set up the commercial winegrowing on the territory of the Gomel oblast. “We know that next year, the farmers of the Gomel oblast will plant the first wines for the production of cognac spirits. Moldovan experts are ready to share their experience with Belarusians regarding winegrowing and to supervise the process of cognac spirits production,” the diplomat said.

The sides discussed the possibility to open outlets in Gomel and Moldova and to organize the supply of vegetables and fruit from Moldova, as well and the expansion of the interregional cooperation.

According to Ivan Filimon, the accords achieved will be reflected in the relevant agreements as early as in November.
