OREANDA-NEWS. November 19, 2008. It was the 8th summit and Russia had a big representation this time. The chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Global Energy international energy prize, academician Yevgeny Velikhov was invited to the summit as Honorary Chairman of the High Committee.

During the summit the delegation of Global Energy met with the member of the royal family, the ministers of industry, finance, commerce, energy and infrastructure, managers of big companies, professors and students of Bahrain University, one of the biggest polytechnic universities of the region, and gave TV and press conferences.

Velikhov made a speech at the opening session and a report at the plenary session. He also moderated the “Problems of Globalization & Environment Protection” roundtable.

In his speech Velikhov gave a detailed picture of the present state of power engineering worldwide and outlined ways to solve the global energy problem. During a meeting with professors and students of Bahrain State University he presented Global Energy prize and pointed out its active contribution to the resolution of energy problems.

The executive director of the Global Energy Foundation Igor Lobovsky made a report on the Global Energy international energy prize as an instrument for stimulating the world science for the sake of early resolution of global energy problems.

Lobovsky believes that the active stimulation of scientific research on renewable and non-renewable energy sources can solve the energy problems of humanity. The new term “energy mix” clearly defines the new vector in the development of the energy economy. Due to Global Energy’s efforts such projects as production of artificial oil (laureates 2008 – Eduard Volkov and Clement Bowman), generation of ecologically friendly hydrogen energy and construction of international thermonuclear experimental reactor (ITER) (laureates 2006 Yevgeny Velikhov, Masahi Yoshikawa (Japan), Robert Aymar (France)) have received worldwide renown and have given a new impetus to global energy development.

The key topic of the summit was resolution of problems of power engineering worldwide and effective use of energy. It was not a coincidence that the summit was held in Bahrain. Today, Bahrain is one of the most important energy and financial centers of the Middle East. Over 200 businessmen from Russia, the EU, the United States, Central Asia and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the (Persian) Gulf attended the summit.

Participation in the summit was part of Global Energy’s policy of active involvement in global events: in 2008 Global Energy has taken part in the Alternative Energy international Forum in Italy, the 2nd EUROPE-UKRAINE Economic Forum in Kyiv, the 4th EUROPE-RUSSIA International Economic Forum in Rome, the 3rd Energy Forum in Budapest.
