OREANDA-NEWS. November 26, 2008. In November the total volume of container handling at Ukrtranscontainer reached 500,000 TEU since the beginning of 2008. For the first time ever the terminal in Illichivsk port handled more than half a million TEU.

Such a throughput growth became the result of investment program 4M implemented at Ukrtranscontainer (UTC, a part of NCC holding).

UTC operates the container terminal in Illichivsk port since August, 2005. In November, 2007 UTC accomplished the first phase of investment program having increased the terminal capacity up to 850,000 TEU. The total investment exceeded USD 55 mln.

After two years of operation UTC increased the terminal annual capacity and intensity of container handling by three times. The terminal has a modern IT system which allows its clients to monitor the path of their containers and to execute documents on-line.

On the 3rd May, 2007 UTC was the first among the container terminals in CIS countries and the Baltic to accept and operate a mother vessel with the capacity over 5,000 TEU.

The second phase of UTC’s development program envisages investment of more then \\$ 200M and the terminal capacity increase up to 1.5 М TEU by 2012.
