OREANDA-NEWS. November 27, 2008. The cost of the joint project of Rosatom and Russian Machines for designing lead-bismuth fast-breeder reactors (SVBR-100) is estimated at 16bln RUR, says the deputy head of the Innovations and Scientific-Technical Policy Department of Atomenergoprom Anna Kudryavtseva.

“The total investments in this project are estimated at 16bln RUR. This pilot reactor is supposed to be launched in 2017,” says Kurdyavtseva.

In 2009 the partners are planning to continue research and development work to design SVBR of peaceful purpose on the basis of earlier developed defense technologies.

According to IAEA’s estimates, the world market for reactors of low and medium capacity is 500–1,000 units by 2040, its capacity – USD 300bln-600bln.

Kudryavtseva believes that SVBR-100 technology can conquer 10%-15% of the world market.

She points out that the additional competitive advantage of this reactor is its modular assembly.

This type of reactor can be used at thermal power plants, floating nuclear power plants, in reconstruction of decommissioned nuclear power plants, desalination, production of hydrogen and petrochemistry.
