OREANDA-NEWS. December 1, 2008. The exhibition took place in New Delhi on Nov 25–28 2008.

300 organizations from 22 regions of Russia presented the most promising directions of Russian-Indian cooperation.

Nov 25 2008 Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Viktor Khristenko and President of San Group, member of the Board of the Indian-Russian Business Council Nand Khemka opened the exhibition. Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin had sent a greeting message to the participant and guests of the exhibition. He said that the exhibition offered wide opportunities for Indians to familiarize themselves with Russia’s innovative capacities, particularly, in the field of electric power engineering.

Rosatom Sate Nuclear Energy Corporation appeared with a thematic exposition presenting the products and projects of Atomstroyexport CJSC, Atomenergoprom OJSC, TVEL OJSC, Atomenergoproekt OJSC, Techsnabexport OJSC, VNIIA.

Atomstroyexport presented video and information materials about its different projects abroad and about its practical potential. The highlight of the presentation was the Russian-Indian strategic cooperation on Kudankulam NPP project. Atomstroyexport is building this plant in compliance with Russian-Indian inter-governmental agreement.

Presently, Russia is the only country building a nuclear power plant in India. Kudankulam NPP project complies with all modern international safety requirements. The plant consists of two WWER reactors of third generation with a capacity of 1,000MW each. The key peculiarity of the project is use of improved equipment and introduction of passive safety systems in addition to traditional active ones. In Feb 2008 the parties coordinated a draft inter-government agreement for joint construction of four additional reactors at Kudankulam site. The speakers pointed out that Indian-Russian cooperation was of strategic importance and that its key component was energy sector, including nuclear power engineering.

Nov 25 2008 after the opening ceremony Khristenko, accompanied by Indian leaders, Ambassador of Russia to India V.Trubnikov, Trade Representative of Russia to India M.Rabotnov and other officials, visited the exposition of Rosatom, particularly, the stand of Atomstroyexport with mock-up of WWER-1000 reactor of NPP-92 project.

Indian specialists – nuclear power engineers, researchers, constructors, maintainers, officials and managers – showed keen interest in Atomstroyexport’s projects.

The Russian National Exhibition in India has become an effective instrument for further strengthening of Russian-Indian relations, development of Russian-Indian cooperation in the field of nuclear power engineering, an opportunity for direct communication and exchange of experience between Indian and Russian specialists and a chance for Russia to demonstrate its capacities abroad.
