OREANDA-NEWS. December 3, 2008. A meeting took place in St.Petersburg between Sovcomflot (SCF) Group representatives and the management of the Maritime Technical College, where crews are being trained for shipping companies. The meeting was part of the “Sovcomflot-2010” programme which is aimed at improving the social security arrangements of seamen and their training, and also developing national maritime education. During the meeting the parties discussed the issues surrounding the training of crew and junior officers at the Maritime College.

With a view to improving the professional skills training of seamen, the SCF Group agreed to contribute to the development of the professional and financial resources of the College. The College’s cadets will now have the opportunity to practice on board the vessels of Russia’s largest shipping company. The training of seamen and their further employment on board Sovcomflot’s vessels will allow the Group to improve the professional skills of its crews and junior officers, which will help enhance the safety of navigation in general.
