OREANDA-NEWS. December 8, 2008. In January-November, 2008, Murmansk Commercial Seaport handled 12.913.570 million tonnes of cargo (-0.3%, year-on-year), the company reports. In the reported period, the company handled 189,728 wagons and 487 vessels.

In November the port handled 1.234.022 million tonnes (+5%, year-on-year). The number of vessels handled by the port in November – 45, wagons – 18,312 including 15,314 wagons with coal.
In November, export totaled 1.176.929 million tonnes (+4.6%, year-on-year) including 1.004.2 million tonnes of coal, 133,800 tonnes of apatite, 29,700 tonnes of non-ferrous metal.

In November, transshipment of general cargo amounted to 90,400 tonnes (+11%, year-on-year), dry bulk – 1.144.2 million tonnes (+4.7%, year-on-year).

JSC Murmansk Commercial Seaport was established in 1994 on base of the public enterprise and nowadays it is one of Russia’s busiest ports. The port has 17 berths with total length of some 3,000 meters. The length and depth enables the port to handle vessels of up to 15.5 meters in draft and over 265 meters in length. The port mainly handles non-ferrous metal and alloys, rolled ferrous metal, coal, apatite concentrate, alumina; scrap metal and iron-ore pellets, chemicals in big-bags, construction materials, foodstuffs, technological equipment and containerized cargo. In 2007, the company’s throughput amounted to 14.443.213 million tonnes.
