OREANDA-NEWS. December 10, 2008. “We have good prospects of cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy, space, other high-tech spheres,” Putin said in Moscow before the start of his negotiation with President of Argentina Cristina Fernбndez de Kirchner. “During the meeting we will certainly discuss our traditional economic relations, particularly, our cooperation in agriculture,” Putin said.

He said that economic relations between Russia and Argentina were developing well: in the last five years the Russian-Argentinean trade-economic turnover has grown fivefold to almost USD 1.5bln.

“This figure covers both our traditional spheres of cooperation and new projects,” Putin said. He noted that 20% electricity in Argentina was produced by Russian equipment.

Cristina Fernбndez de Kirchner said that she was going to talk about the key priorities of bilateral cooperation. “Of course, we will also talk about space, energy and other sectors,” she said. She pointed out that due to joint efforts the parties had ensured progress in the field of simplification of visa regime and thanked Putin for Russia’s position on the matter.

The Argentinean President thanked Putin for Russia’s support of Argentina concerning the necessity of the UK’s joining the negotiations process on the Falkland Islands.

Speaking of international problems Cristina Fernбndez de Kirchner pointed out the necessity of creating “multi-polar world” with the view of avoiding “mono-polarity” – a problem that caused so much of headache in its time.
