OREANDA-NEWS. December 17, 2008. 9 works have won the first, 14 – the second and 13 — the third place.

This year the contest had nine nominations covering almost all directions of the training of students for nuclear power plants. Students of 11 educational institutions, including universities graduating specialists for nuclear power plants, took part in the contest.

The organizer of the contest was the Obninsk State Technical University for Nuclear Power Engineering. The reception and examination of the works was carried out under the control of rector of the university Nikolay Salnikov. The best works of the first two rounds were submitted to the central contest committee of Energoatom Concern, chaired by the deputy director general-the director for scientific-technical policy of Energoatom Concern Vladimir Asmolov.

While speaking at the awarding ceremony in the House of Scientists of Obninsk, the first deputy head of the Personnel Management Department of Energoatom Concern Nikolay Karelin pointed out that the contestants showed excellent knowledge. “You are really good specialists, worthy graduates of your universities,” Karelin said.

Professor Yuri Kazansky suggested publishing 17 works in “Izvestiya Vuzov: Yadernaya Energetika” (News of Universities: Nuclear Power Engineering) magazine.

The first prize winners received 30,000 RUR, their supervisors – 10,000 RUR, the second prize winners – 20,000 RUR and 7,000 RUR, the third prize winners – 10,000 RUR and 5,000 RUR, respectively.

After the awarding ceremony, the contestants visited the world’s first nuclear power plant (Obninsk) and Svyato-Pafnutyev Monastery in Borovsk.

The organizers hope that the annual conduct of the contest will help it to more effectively perform its mission: to popularize nuclear energy and to attract young talented youths to nuclear power plants.
