OREANDA-NEWS. December 19, 2008. For Jan-Nov 2008 cargo carriages in Azerbaijan by all transport means grew by 10.4% up to 165.1 million tons and cargo turnover increased by 15.5% against the 2007 relevant period.

The State Statistics Committee informs that cargo was transported mainly by road (47.2%), via pipelines 30.9%, by rail 15.3% and by sea 6.6%. Up to 69% of cargo was carried by private transport.

For the reported period it was transported 1.1 bn passengers that is by 8% more against the 2007 same period. 83.2% of passenger carriages were carried out by non-state sector. Passenger carriages by road reached 83.3% and by the underground 16.1%.

For the reported period transportation by rail made 25.3 million tons of transit cargo that by 1.2% less versus the 2007 same term figure. Daily wagon loading reduced by 3.2% and the unloading figure rose by 11.5%.

For Jan-Nov 2008 it was shipped 10.8 million tons of transit cargo that is by 16.4% more against the 2007 same term. Oil made 70.4% and dry cargo 29.6%.

By road it was carried 78 million tons of cargo and 939.9 million passengers that is by 7.6% and 7% more respectively versus the 2007 same term figures. Cargo transportation by buses made 96.7% and automobiles 3.3%. Motor cargo turnover increased by 8.7% and passenger turnover by 8.7%.

By air it was transported for Jan-Nov 2008, 1.3 million passengers that is by 8.8% less versus the 2007 same period. 92.8% of passengers were carried by planes of state airlines and 7.2% by planes of private ones.

Transportation via domestic oil pipelines reached 40.8 million tons (+12.7%). Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipe carried 30.1 million tons (+17.5%) of oil for Jan-Nov 2008.

Domestic gas main pipelines carried by 72.6% more. 29.3% of that volume or 4.3 bn cu m of gas was exported via Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline. Total volume of transported gas for Jan-Nov 2008 made 10.1 bn cu m.
