OREANDA-NEWS. December 23, 2008.   The volume of gas transported in Belarus in 2008 has increased by 4% to 73 billion cubic metres, OAO Beltransgaz First Deputy Director General Tsvitomir Sorokhan told a press conference on December 24.

This year Beltransgaz has reached all performance goals. In 2008 73 billion cubic metres of gas has been transported from Russia via and across Belarus. It is the highest figure registered in recent years, said Tsvitomir Sorokhan. Gas transit amounted to 51.6 billion, which is much higher than the figure registered in 2007 and above the contractual obligations. “We meet all Gazprom requirements for transit,” said the official.

In his words, the company has secured good revenues from selling services and good indicators in other areas. The achievement was noted at a recent session of the Beltransgaz Supervisory Board, which summed up results of 2008 and adopted plans for 2009.

According to Tsvitomir Sorokhan, this year a lot has been done to build up underground gas storage facilities in Belarus. The capacity of the Pribugskoye underground gas storage facility has been increased up to 450 million cubic metres. The construction of the Mozyrskoye underground gas storage facility is underway, with 50 million cubic metres of gas pumped into the first stage of the project.
