On 29 December 2008 was announced, that the RA Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan visited the Joint institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna (Russian Federation) to get acquainted with the current activity of the institute and discuss the possibilities of establishment of nuclear medical centre in Armenia

The Yerevan Alikhanyan Physics Institute with JINR developed the project on “Accelerator physics technologies for production of radionuclide for medicine of Armenia and other regional countries”. This project will provide for establishment of Cyclotron nuclear physics centre based on JINR, for production of radioactive isotopes and launching of research works for related sciences.

During the meeting the sides confirmed their preparedness to collaborate for establishment of nuclear medical centre in Armenia. JINR will provide the assistance in all processes-development, expertizing, training of personals, triggering and joint activity in all directions.

It was mutually agreed to establish Congress center for joint scientific conferences, “round tables”, training of young scientists and elaboration of interactive educational programs.

Sides stressed the importance of establishment of Grid infrastructure in Armenia, and expressed interest to cooperation in special economic zone “Dubna” for development of JINR innovation zone and organize the establishment of international centre of nanotechnologies for CIS countries.
