OREANDA-NEWS. On January 09, 2009 The Economics Minister of Ukraine Bohdan Danylyshyn held the first sitting of Coordination Council for Cooperation with Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) this year.

The Head of economic department stressed Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is the so-called “rich-man's club”, as the states which constitute it produce 60% of all goods and services in the world and appear a main intergovernmental economic institution of thirty industrially developed states of the world.

According to the Economics Minister, for over 40 years the organization is the most trustworthy source of economic research, statistical data of economic and social character all around the world. This organization is among the three most influential world institutions together with IMF and the World Bank. The membership in the OECD and assessment of this organization are taken into account while adopting decisions concerning investments and cooperation.

The Economics Minister expressed his convictions that full-fledged participation in this authoritative organization with its powerful analytical capacities responds to the interests of Ukrainian Government and appears the main objective of activity of the Coordination Council. He announced that in the year 2008 activation of work with OECD proved possible to achieve.

In particular, Ukraine obtained the status of a permanent observer in the OECD Steering Group of Corporate Governance and in the Workgroup for Small and Average Business Development; Ukrainian delegations of leading ministries and departments made a series of visits to the OECD headquarters, held talks and took part in forums and workshops.

Bohdan Danylyshyn stressed that one of the priority tasks for 2009-2012 determined by the Ukraine’s Government became “the development of cooperation of Ukraine with the OECD to acquire a full-fledged membership in this organization”.
