OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2009. In 2008, Iljichevsk Commercial Seaport handled 18.904 million tonnes of cargo (+18%, year-on-year), the port informs. In the reported period, transshipment of general cargo amounted to 10.877 million tonnes (+22%) including 1.542 million tonnes of cast iron (+89%), 2.970 million tonnes of metal (+16%). The port’s container throughput grew by 26% to 670,556 TEU.

Transshipment of ro-ro cargo doubled to 253,676 units.

In January-December the port handled 6.590 million tonnes of dry bulk (+24%) including 1.739 million tonnes of sulfur (+83%), 2.359 million tonnes of grain (+58%), 2.457 million tonnes of ore (-7%).

In the 12-month period, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo decreased by 19% to 1.438 million tonnes including 586,000 tonnes of oil products (+39%).

In December the port’s throughput fell by 21.1%, year-on-year, to 1.299 million tonnes.
Iljichevsk Commercial Seaport (Ukraine, Odessa region) has been operating from 1958. The port’s territory is 346 hectares, berth length is 5.4 km. Area of covered storage space is 54.2 thou m2, open storage space – 743.94 thou m2. The port accepts vessels with up to 13 m of draft. No limits as regards length of the vessels. Average depth near the port is 13.5 m, which enable it to serve the vessels of up to 100,000 tonnes in deadweight.
