OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2009. Rehabilitation is one of the key components of employee’s life and health protection system. Since 2004 Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant has implemented a program for medical rehabilitation of its personnel. This program is part of the corporate rehabilitation and health care program of Energoatom Concern. Its goal is to enhance the professional efficiency of employees by preserving and maintaining their ability to work.

This program envisages measures to prevent professional diseases at early stages. At Smolensk NPP personnel rehabilitation is carried out in the following directions:

— local rehabilitation – at Lesnaya Polyana sanatorium;
— guest rehabilitation – at sanatoriums of the Black Sea, Caucasian Mineral Waters and Moscow region;
— rehabilitation in the framework of the program of voluntary medical insurance as treatment after acute or in case of chronic diseases.

Local rehabilitation is carried out on an on-the-job basis on the recommendation of the specialists of Medical-Sanitary Unit 135 and the psycho-physical support department. Lesnaya Polyana sanatorium has the most modern medical equipment, balneary and physical therapy center.

If an employee needs additional treatment or procedures that are not available at Lesnaya Polyana, he is sent to special sanatoriums outside the region, particularly, to the Black Sea: Yuzhnoye Vzmorye (Adler), Krasnaya Talka (Gelenjik), Golubaya Dal (Divnomorskoye), Nadezhda (Kabardinka, Krasnodar region), Ural (Anapa). These sanatoriums offer a wide range of treatment and rehabilitation services: sun and air baths, sea and mineral water and mud are perfect for treating diseases of respiratory, musculoskeletal, nervous and cardio-vascular systems.

The sanatoriums of the Caucasian Mineral Waters – Imeni Lermontova and Rodnik (Pyatigorsk), Beshtau (Zheleznovodsk), Jinal (Kislovodsk) and Zhemchuzhina Kavkaza (Yessentuki) – with their unique mineral sources and muds specialize in treating diseases of gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, nervous and cardio-vascular systems and preventing stresses.

The sanatoriums of Central Russia are situated in moderate climate zone and specialize in treating cardio-vascular diseases. Yerino and Istra sanatoriums (Moscow region) are widely known for their unique mineral waters used for treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.

1,282 employees were sent to Lesnaya Polyana in 2008 with 875 employees rehabilitated at sanatoriums of Central Russia, the Black Sea and the Caucasian Mineral Waters.

The efficiency of a company strongly depends on the health of its employees. So, Smolensk NPP not only rehabilitates its employees but also cultivates healthy lifestyle among them. The proverb says: “Sound mind in sound body.”
