OREANDA-NEWS. January 20, 2009. Polyarnye Zori has been granted certificate and special prize of 10th Annual Competition “The Most Comfortable City of Russia 2007” for “Development of Competitive Environment in Municipal Economy”.

The awarding of the winners of the competition has taken place in Moscow. 96 cities of Russia participated in the event this year. Polyarnye Zori took part in the comptition for the first time. The special prize was granted by the Ministry of Regional Development of Russia.

The administration of Polyarnye Zori reports that they have organized a special meeting on this occasion and have invited the managers of local communal and manufacturing companies and organizations, representatives of the small business, the members of the working group for drafting of competitive documentation.

The head of the administration of Polyarnye Zori Nikolay Goldobin congratulated them on the award and presented them with letters of gratitude for their active contribution to the development of Polyarnye Zori and the improvement of the living conditions in the city.

The organizers of the competition have published an encyclopedia of the most comfortable cities of Russia in 2007 among them Sochi, Reutov, Novosibirsk, Cheboksary, Nalchik.

Polyarnye Zori contended with 45 municipal units of the third category: towns and urban-type villages with population of less than 100,000 people. The first and second categories comprised cities with population of more than 100,000 people and administrative centers. A total of 96 cities from 50 regions took part in the contest.

The jury paid special attention to the results of energy and social-economic development programs, the amount of money spent on modernization of communal services, introduction of progressive forms of housing fund management and liquidation of unfit housing fund, the quality of construction and communal services especially in winter.

Considering the big work carried out in Polyarnye Zori in the field of communal services, the city has all chances to further enhance its status among its rivals, some of whom have taken part in the contest for many years.
