OREANDA-NEWS. January 21, 2009. In 2008 the nuclear power plants of Energoatom Concern OJSC generated 162.3bln KWh – 100.5% of the plan or 102.5% of the output of 2007.

In 2008 the plant operated safely and efficiently with no above “0” INES events registered during the year.

In 2008 the incident rate dropped to 39 from 47 in 2007: 8 responses of automatic protection systems against 9 in 2007, 14 unplanned outages against 15 in 2007. None of the incidents caused damage to the personnel or the environment.

The capacity factor was 79.5% — 1.8% higher than in 2007.

On July 2008 Energoatom Concern switched to the transitional model of power market. This model ensures 100% sale of power and additional income from the sale of electricity on the spot market. In 2008 the share of electricity sold at the wholesale market for electricity and power at free prices made up 21.5%.

In 2008 the Federal Agency for State Property Management decreed to reorganize Rosenergoatom Concern Federal State Unitary Enterprise into Energoatom Concern Open Joint Stock Company. This measure is supposed to attract additional investments in the development of the Concern and the whole nuclear industry and to enhance their capacities.

In 2008 the Concern developed a complex plan of preparations for the autumn-winter 2008–2009, checked up the readiness of the plants for the period and maintained 29 of its 31 units.

All the plants fulfilled their annual modernization plans. Particularly, due to the program to increase the output of the operating nuclear power plants of Rosenergoatom Concern in 2007–2015, Energoatom Concern has increased its equivalent yield by 1,600MW since 2006.

In 2008 in the framework of its investment program and the plan of action of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation (2009–2015) Energoatom Concern received budgetary financing worth 51.1bln RUR. 

In 2008 the projects of the 1st and 2nd units of Novovoronezh NPP-2 and the 1st unit of Leningrad NPP-2 were approved by the Chief State Inspection of Russia and Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation and licensed by the Federal Service for Technological, Ecological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor). The design of the 3rd and 4th units of Rostov NPP was finalized. The Concern has made contracts for designing the 3rd and 4th units of Leningrad NPP-2, Seversk, South Ural, Central, Tver, Nizhniy Novgorod and Baltic NPP.

In Aug 2008 Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation decided to cancel the contract with Sevmash OJSC for the construction of the first floating nuclear power plant and to give the contract to Baltiyskiy Zavod OJSC. The plant is 85% ready. Presently, the constructors are assembling the reactors and are finishing the testing of the first steam turbine.

In the number of the Concern’s employees decreased by 4.4% to a total of 38,500 employees. The average monthly salary grew by 30% to 40,000 RUR.
