OREANDA-NEWS. January 21, 2009. Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia Sergey Mironov has said that the scientific capacities of the federal nuclear center in Sarov must be actively used for ensuring the innovative development of Russia.

During his one-day visit to Sarov Mironov said that the very existence of cities like Sarov might become a decisive competitive advantage of Russia in its efforts to build economy of knowledge.

“The main thing we must do to this end is to preserve the atmosphere of creative scientific search, to create favorable conditions for the life and work of Russian scientists and young talented youths,” Mironov said.

“If we do this, the life and work in Sarov will become no less prestigious and interesting that the life and work in the Silicon Valley.”

Mironov believes that Sarov needs special support of the state and society. “We are lucky that we have managed to preserve the capacities of this center and these capacities must be actively used,” he said.
