OREANDA-NEWS. February 10, 2009. System of radioactive waste management at Yuzhno-Ukrainsk NPP complies with IAEA standards. The Agency experts arrived at such conclusion, which had inspected the compliance of radioactive waste management and program on terminating exploitation of energy blocks at the Yuzhno-Ukrainsk NPP from January 31 to February 6.

“The system of radioactive waste management completely complies with the international standards,” IAEA Mission Chief Phil Metcalf summed up at a meeting, held on February 9, in Kyiv.

The experts noted the compliance with the international norms of the program on terminating exploitation of energy blocks, elaborated at the plant. The international experts consider that self-rating of the process of radioactive waste management and the program on terminating exploitation of energy blocks have been implemented by the Yuzhno-Ukrainsk atomic scientists at high professional level.

NNEGC “Energoatom” President Yurii Nedashkovskyi stressed that IAEA outcomes are very important for Ukrainian atomic scientists considering the prospects of cooperation with the European Union and thanked the experts for work on increasing safety of the domestic NNPs.
