OREANDA-NEWS. On 12 February 2009 was announced, that OGK 5 issued its operating results achieved in 2008.

Power generation totaled 43 005 GWh in 2008, growing by 12.1% versus 2007. The growth in power output was mainly driven by the increase of availability factor up to 77.8% (69.6% in 2007), and the positive dynamics of energy demand in OGK-5 market zone, especially in the Urals region. The utilization factor on total capacity amounted to 56.8% versus 51.0% in 2007.

The coal-fired Reftinskaya GRES power plant , which accounted for 49% of the total power generation was the main contributor to the improvement of the overall operating performance.

In 2008 power sales totaled 50 661 GWh, posting an increase of 10.5% on the previous year. Day-ahead market (DAM) sales increased by 112.4%, totaling 14 189 GWh. The share of DAM sales on total sales increased up to 28.0% (14.6% in 2007). In order to mitigate the risk of price volatility on the day-ahead market, the Company managed to significantly increase its sales under free bilateral contracts (2 798 GWh, or 105% higher than 2007 level).

Heat output totaled 6 819 thousand Gcal, which is 0.7% higher than 2007 level. JSC OGK-5 was registered in Yekaterinburg on October 27, 2004.
