OREANDA-NEWS. February 19, 2009. Atomenergoprom OJSC has drafted and is implementing a complex of measures to improve mechanisms for effectively managing and ensuring the high quality of NPP construction projects.

These measures have been presented during the seminar-conference “Improvement of System of Quality in the Framework of Long-Term NPP Construction Program of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation,” which is being held in Obninsk Feb 16–20 2009.

Deputy Director of Atomenergoprom OJSC Alexander Polushkin said that the quality of equipment supplied to an NPP construction site could not be high without preliminary quality management work while the supply of equipment of poor quality might result in delay of the project because of additional work to replace the equipment or to remove its defects.”

In order to improve its quality management and control system, Atomenergoprom is planning to develop the following requiremdents:
requirements to the quality management systems of subsidiary companies and organizations involved in the construction of nuclear power plants;
requirements to certification of potential suppliers/contractors under NPP construction projects;
requirements to the quality of equipment (annexes to equipment delivery contracts);
requirements to the quality of construction and installation work;
quality indices;
contract monitoring procedures.

The work to improve mechanisms for effectively managing and ensuring the high quality of NPP construction projects is stipulated by the plan of action to implement “Power Engineering” section of direction 3 of the long-term program of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation as well as by the corporate program to ensure effective energy production by nuclear power plants and to enhance the competitiveness of serial construction projects for 2009–2020. The latter program is being managed by Atomenergoprom.
