OREANDA-NEWS. February 27, 2009. Russia and Jordan have initialed an agreement for cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The agreement envisages the construction of a nuclear power plant, a sea water desalination plant, research and personnel training centers in Amman. It also empowers the parties to develop their cooperation in the field of mining and use of nuclear materials.

The agreement was signed by Vice Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of Jordan Kamal Araj and Deputy Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Nikolay Skasskiy during their meeting in Amman on Feb 26 2009.

The official signing of the agreement is expected to take place in Moscow in a month.
