OREANDA-NEWS. March 6, 2009. While implementing the policy of the national economy diversification as well as increasing the paces of creating the industrial infrastructure Turkmenistan demonstrates the responsible attitude to the issues regarding environmental safety and citizens’ health protection. That is vividly proved by the Resolution adopted by the President of Turkmenistan regarding replacing and burial of anthropogenic radioactive waste of two large industrial enterprises – chemicals plant Hazar and Iodine plant Balkanabat in the safe place. According to the document ZAO Ecomet-C Russian Company will carry out the relevant works by request of the Turkmenchimia State Concern. The project is amounted to over 12.4 million US dollars.

Environmental protection, natural resources conservation and creation of the most favorable conditions for the life of the people are the priority aspects of the state policy carried on in modern Turkmenistan. Having joined to the main international ecological conventions Turkmenistan successively carries out the undertaken obligations. At present Turkmenistan, as any developed country, has to face with the problems accompanying the rapid economic and industrial growth and to find optimal solutions.

According to GK Turkmenchimia the relevant documents specifying the burial ground, transportation, storing and safe keeping conditions as well as period of execution of works have been prepared. It is not a random selection of contractor – ZAO Ecomet-C applies the efficient modern technologies and has broad experience in this sphere. The works will be conducted in accordance with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Defense. Anthropogenic radioactive waste from two large industrial enterprises will be delivered to the burial ground in sealed containers.
