OREANDA-NEWS. March 11, 2009. Subsidiaries of Atomenergoprom have presented their products at Atomexpo Belarus 2009 international specialized exhibition in Minsk.

The chief designer of Gidropress Experimental Design Bureau (subsidiary of Atomenergoprom OJSC) Mikhail Nikitenko presented a new nuclear reactor. He said that they were consistently improving the parameters of the system and that all of their projects underwent thorough examination and testing.

The chief designer of NIKIET (N.A.Dolezhal Research and Development Institute of Power Engineering, subsidiary of Atomenergoprom OJSC) Vladimir Smetannikov presented mobile low capacity nuclear reactor. He said that it was a very promising project. The key advantage of this technology is that the consumer gets a finished product (in the form of a reactor): the unit is delivered to the site, mounted and commissioned within two days and is operated without refueling for 25 years. The capacity of such a reactor is 2.4–2.6MW.

Smetannikov invited Byelorussian machine building companies to take part in the project. The research and development expenses will total some 2.5bln RUR. The cost of one unit is estimated at 755mln RUR. The project is expected to pay off in 4–12 years depending on electricity tariffs. The first commercial reactor will be ready in five years. Smetannikov said that the project would comply with all requirements to nonproliferation of sensitive technologies.

The chief designer of NPP-2006 project Sergey Svetlov (St.Petersburg Atomenergoproekt, subsidiary of Atomenergoprom OJSC) told the guests about the key peculiarities of the project. He said that the project was in high demand not only in Russia (Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2) but also abroad. This project has won a tender in Turkey and is expected to be applied at Loviisa NPP in Finland.

The director general of Alstom-Atomenergomash LLC Alexander Tsvetkov presented the advantages of the low speed turbines manufactured by his company by Alstom technology. He said that, according to experts, the use of low speed turbines yielded 1.5bln EUR more profit than the use of high speed ones. Alstom-Atomenergomash is ready to supply such turbines for nuclear power plants. Tsvetkov pointed out that Alstom turbines were very safe and economically efficient.
