OREANDA-NEWS. March 18, 2009. A conference of the heads of the labor protection departments of the Russian nuclear power plants set off in Moscow Mar 17 2009. Representatives of the Central Office of Energoatom Concern OJSC, Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, Atomenergoremont OJSC, VNIIAES, the Federal Government Agency — All Russia Center for Occupational Safety and Health, the Association of Producers of Means of Individual Protection and other organizations are taking part in the conference.

The key objective of the meeting is to sum up the results of the work done in 2008 and to consider the possibilities for developing further cooperation with organizations ensuring occupational safety and health in process of construction and operation of nuclear power plants in the framework of the project to improve occupational safety and health and to enhance safety culture.

While opening the meeting First Deputy General Inspector of Energoatom Concern Igor Zonov pointed out that Rosatom SC and Enerogatom Concern paid special attention to prevention of onsite injuries and diseases, information support in the field of occupational safety and health, search for reserves and new methods of work in the sphere.

Head of Labor and Personnel Protection Department of Energoatom Concern Aleksey Ivanov said that in 2008 nine of ten nuclear power plants registered no single accident. In 2009 priority will be given to effective cooperation with contractor organizations kin the field of occupation safety and health with great attention to be paid to ongoing NPP constructions.

In 2009 Energoatom Concern and Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation will continue improving their occupational safety and health system and will significantly toughen requirements to assessment of workplaces. President of the Association of Producers of Means of Individual Protection Vladimir Preobrazhensky said that new requirements to special uniforms and individual protection means will be adopted this year.
