OREANDA-NEWS. March 24, 2009. Odessa sea trading port will compensate for the losses of container shipments at the expense of metal, grains and other bulk cargos, declared Nikholay Pavlyuk, the head of the port, on March 19.

According to the data of the head of the port, in the first quarter of the year import container shipment in the port decreased by 75%, exports and deadheading - by 20%. Oil shipment also reduced. The quarter decrease totals 1.5 mln tons.

The port lost sugar imports, which totaled 0.5 mln tons in a quarter, due to providing of railway cars for grains exceptionally. The port expects for the return of the cargo in May 2009, added N.Pavlyuk.

The governmental enterprise Odessa sea trading port is located in the south-western part of Odessa bay, on the artificially made territory with area of 109.5 ha. The enterprises annually process over 14 mln tons of dry and 24 mln tons of bulked cargos. During 2 months of 2009, the port decreased cargo shipment by 20% compared to the same period of 2008 and totaled 4.61 mln tons. Container shipment decreased by 44%. Only bulked ore shipment increased by 77% and bulked grain shipment - by 126.5%.
