OREANDA-NEWS. April 9, 2009. In the first quarter of 2009, cargo transshipment by commercial seaport Reni (Ukraine) fell by 44%, year-on-year, to 483,000 tonnes, RZD-Partner refers to the port’s operative data.

Actually, in the reported period the port handled 14% of the volume handled in 2008. Transshipment of export cargo fell by 77% to 27,500 tonnes. Transshipment of ferrous metal fell 3 times, transshipment of coal and ore decreased to a zero level. Import fell 84% to 24,100 tonnes due to a declining demand for coking colas.

The port’s transit transshipment fell by 26% to 412,000 tonnes, which should be attributed to the fall of loose cargo transshipment (coal and grain).

In 2008, the port demonstrated a 19.5-pct increase, one of the highest in the branch.
