OREANDA-NEWS. April 23, 2009. Russia hopes that by the autumn US Congress will reconsider US-Russian draft agreement for cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy, Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko said during the “Nuclear Energy, Society, Security” forum in St.Petersburg.

“Considering our contacts with the US Department of Energy and Department of State, we hope that by this autumn US Congress will reconsider the US-Russian draft agreement for cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy. This will give us one more opportunity to implement the contracts and agreements we have prepared with US companies, ” Kiriyenko said.

This agreement is supposed to help Rosatom to complete its integration into the world nuclear community. “On the one hand, this agreement offers wide opportunities, on the other, it sets requirements complying with the international transparency and openness rules. We have much to do yet towards this end,” Kiriyenko said.
