OREANDA-NEWS. April 23, 2009. In 2008 the Russian nuclear power plants showed the highest output since the Soviet times, Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko said at the opening of the public forum dialogue “Nuclear Energy, Society, Security” in St.Petersburg.

BIA quotes Kiriyenko as saying that in 2008 the Russian nuclear power plants generated a total of 162.3bln KWh.

“Simultaneously with enlarging their output our nuclear power plants are improving their safety. In the last years they have registered no single serious event. The reactor stoppage rate has dropped from 0.5 to 0.26 a year. And this is not the limit,” Kiriyenko said.
