OREANDA-NEWS. On 27 April 2009 was announced, that Barnaul (the Altay Territory) hosted the roundtable discussion “Implementation of the project “Altayskoe Priobye”: goals, challenges and solutions”. Participants of the event, including federal administration officials and members of scientific and business communities, were considering development options for the region as a special agricultural area.

Representatives of livestock farming, poultry, grain processing and dairy industries presented their innovative projects during the meeting.

One of the speakers at the event was Andrey Igoshin, President of PAVA – a major Russian grain processor that implements a grain fractionation project. Mr Igoshin spoke on the development prospects of advanced wheat processing and business areas of the new enterprise.

“The advanced processing project is an opportunity to diversify our markets by entering new, growing sectors as opposed to the oversaturated milling sector. Today, consumption of VWG, starches and syrups is dramatically increasing, and all of these products are imported to Russia. Consequently, the new production will replace the imports in part, which gives a great potential to the project”, said President of the grain processing company.

Participants of the round table agreed that the grain processing market in the Altay Territory is well-developed, and that the issue of distribution is an urgent one. “One of the main development targets for the flour milling and cereal industries is to gradually enter the international level”, noted Boris Neudakhin, Vice-Governor of the Altay Territory.

“Today, Russian flour milling market is characterized by oversupplies, and is unable to consume the produced volumes. This is the reason for grain processors to seek growth opportunities abroad. Our company is not an exception; during the past 2 years, we have been industry leaders in exporting. Nevertheless, I am sure that advanced grain processing has a big future ahead of it”, concluded Mr Igoshin.
