OREANDA-NEWS. May 6, 2009. In January-April 2009, throughput of Archangelsk Port fell by 29.6%, year-on-year, to 1.125 million tonnes, the port states. According to the statement, the port’s stevedoring companies accepted 216,077 tonnes of cargo (+50.5%, year-on-year) including 149,730 tonnes of import cargo (+85.5%) and 66,350 tonnes of coastal trade cargo (+5.5%). Import of containerized cargo amounted to 4,773 tonnes (-70.5%).  The volume of incoming coastal trade containerized cargo increased 14.47 times to 12,935 tonnes, transshipment of other general cargo fell by 13.8% to 53,414 tonnes.

In the reported period the port dispatched 909,398 tonnes of cargo (-37.5%) including 335,223 tonnes of export cargo (-44.6%) and 574,175 tonnes of coastal trade cargo (-32.4%). Export of containerized cargo amounted to 4,219 tonnes (-70%), timber – 135,698 tonnes (27%), cellulose - 37,830 tonnes (+0.8%), cardboard and paper - 5,090 tonnes (-53.3%).

Outgoing coastal trade cargo included 466,674 tonnes of oil products (-37.7%), 50,758 tonnes of other general cargo (-13.9%), 19,824 tonnes of containerized cargo (up 2-fold).

The port of Archangelsk is the largest seaport in the Northern region of Russia. Seaport of Archangelsk accepts vessels with a draft of up to 9.2 meters, length of up to 175-200 meters, breadth of up to 30 meters. The port comprises 151 berths with a total length of 17,548 meters, including 31 berths of timber industry companies, 22 berths of sea trade port, 6 berths of the river port, 3 berths of Rosneft-Archangelsknefteproduct OJSC engaged in export of oil and oil products, 2 berths of the fishing port and 87 minor berths of other companies. Archangelsk port is crossed by cargo transit lines from Europe to the states of the Far, Middle and Near East.
